The Mini Original Kick Scooter by Micro Kickboard is, without a doubt, one of the most popular scooters for young children. This is one of the highest rated, best selling scooters for its age group. We took a look at the Mini Kick Scooter, and I let my nephew try it out, to see if it lives up to the hype.
Micro Kickboard’s Micro Kick Scooter Review
The Micro Mini is designed for ages 2-5 and up to 44 pounds. (Micro Kickboards do make a few other similar models for older children.) It definitely has a high build quality, which is mandatory for anything designed for children. There were a couple reviews I found online complaining about the reliability of the break, but we weren’t able to find any issues or problems ourselves. We’ve definitely reviewed much more expensive products that don’t match the build quality we found here.
Being used to scooters designed for older children or adults, there were a lot of interesting features I noticed. The wheels are a relatively soft non-marking polyurethane. You can actually let your child practice with it indoors without your floors getting all scuffed up.
You also don’t steer with the handle bar. The handle bar is just for holding on to, while you lean into it to turn. This makes sense after letting my nephew play on it for a bit. I could definitely see him turning to sharply or not holding the handlebar tight enough if it steered. Instead, the design made it so it was almost impossible to lose your balance or turn too hard. Of course, you’ll still want a helmet just in case anyone takes a tumble!
The rest of it works like a regular scooter, just on three wheels to make sure balancing isn’t an issue. You have a back break that might take a bit to get used to (my nephew definitely forgot about it a few times and started sliding his shoe to slow down), but works fine.
Overall, Micro Kickboard’s Mini is a great scooter for young kids. My nephew was probably a little better suited for the slightly larger Maxi model, but he was still able to have fun with the Mini. At only around $80, this is a great, safe buy for children 2-5. It is available in lots of different colors and some slightly different models, so definitely shop around and find the right on for your child!
