What is an electric skateboard? The perfect “last mile” transportation device. A device that can go faster than city traffic, is easier to ride than a skateboard, and definitely more fun and easier to carry than a bike.
Electric skateboards are actually easier to ride than a normal skateboard. Not having to push, built in breaks and speed controls, and all sorts of customizable options make it possible to be comfortable on an electric skateboard even if you’ve never ridden a normal skateboard before.
You can probably guess the basics from the name, but electric skateboards are the modern versions of motorized skateboards that have been around for decades. They still have all the same features of a skateboard, with a few add ons. All electric skateboards will still have the same or similar trucks, wheels, bearings and deck as a normal skateboard. Most are designed in a style more like a longboard, but you can find electric skateboards of all shapes and sizes including penny boards and normal street skateboards too. Some people even build their own electric skateboards, either by buying parts separately or with a kit to add on to a traditional skateboard.
What makes electric skateboards work is the recent advancements in a few key pieces of technology. The battery, motor, remote and internal electronics are what make the awesome electric skateboards out there possible.
