The Razor e300 is probably the cheapest electric scooter for teens and adults out there right now. Razor was the main group that popularized scooters in the ’90s, and with the e300 they are trying to do the same for electric scooters. The e300 has been on the market for a few years now, but has anyone else come out with a better electric scooter? We tested it out and did the research for you, so read the rest of AAB’s Razor e300 review to see what we think.
A quick aside – razor does make similar electric scooters in different sizes for kids and young adults. If you are interested in an electric scooter for someone under 13, a good place to start would be the Razor e100. Razor also makes versions of each of their scooters that have seats – they just add an “S” to the model. So if you want an e300 with a seat, you can look for Razor’s e300s.
Razor e300 Specifications
This electric scooter has a top speed of 15 miles per hour, and the battery will last for at least 40 minutes of continuous use. You control the motor with a twist grip on the handlebar.
The brake is controlled with a handlebar brake like you would find on most bikes. You can still push the scooter as if it weren’t electric to conserve the battery or when it runs out.
The handlebar can be completely removed for easy storage. The wheels can also be easily taken off and replaced, if necessary, and the e300 supports riders that weigh up to 220 pounds.
Razor has learned a lot through their decades of scooter production, and the e300’s build quality shows it. The frame is all steel and the battery and motor are both protected by additional steel panels. The wheels are actually 8-inch pneumatic tires. The e300, like most Razor products, is designed to take a beating and not ever require any extensive repairs.
Razor e300 Review
The first thing that stands out about the Razor e300 is the build quality. Even though electric scooters are pretty new, Razor has used their experience to make a really solid product. This is really important for something you might end up using on your daily commute. With the e300, you can trust Razor not to have any problems that products from a newer or smaller company might encounter.
The e300 is pretty fun to ride. The handlebar acceleration and breaking are pretty easy to learn and get used to. With the e300s you can have a comfortable ride sitting down, or with the normal e300 you have plenty of room to position your feet with what feels right to you.
The pretty big 8-inch tires provide a lot of benefits for riding. First, it makes the e300 easily handle bumps in the road or any minor obstacles. It also makes it so, with the help of the motor, you can easily ride over grass and dirt. If you ever had one of the Razor scooters that were everywhere in the later ’90s, you’ll know this is a huge upgrade. With the old, non-electric Razor scooters any rock in the road could cause trouble, and you definitely weren’t riding on grass or dirt. The e300 is a great off-roading scooter by comparison.
The biggest drawback of the e300 is the charging time and battery life. Razor recommends 12 hours (!) of charging time, for only 40 minutes of continuous use. The 40 minutes of battery life isn’t as bad as it sounds since the e300 still works fine when pushing it, and you won’t be draining the battery when coasting downhill. The 12-hour charging time can be really annoying if you have a longer commute and need to charge it at work, or if you just forget to plug it in.
- Great build quality
- Handles well on roads or on grass and dirt thanks to 8-inch pneumatic tires
- Large deck with plenty of room
- Easy to use even when battery is drained
- Easy to assemble and can disassemble for easy storage and transport
- Low price, starting at ~$200
- Comes in a variety of colors and configurations – Gray, Red, Blue with seat (e300s), and more
- Long charging time (12 hours) and short battery life (40 minutes)
Overall, the Razor e300 is a great electric scooter for its target audience. If you are under 13 or under 120 pounds you’ll probably want to look at the Razor e100, which is very similar but designed for teenagers and adults. If you’re really serious about electric scooters there are certainly other high-end options out there. Still, the Razor e300 is probably the best electric scooter out there in its price range of $200 – $300.
